Riley Road
by Elijah Patterson
I remember you in the seams of well-tiled roofs.
Not as I knew you in the end,
teeth loose in their sockets,
but young, breathing in the smelly fumes of hot tar,
wiping the sweat from your brow
as you surveyed all the other roof-tops,
small mountains you had yet to climb.
Not as I knew you in the end,
teeth loose in their sockets,
but young, breathing in the smelly fumes of hot tar,
wiping the sweat from your brow
as you surveyed all the other roof-tops,
small mountains you had yet to climb.
