Broccoli slices
These broccoli slices are inspired by my favorite way to cook broccoli, learned from my partner. You just cut broccoli vertically into slabs and sear them for a couple minutes in a very hot pan. She makes a few heads of broccoli at once, so we always have cooked broccoli to add to a meal.
For the raw broccoli, I created some blends with different shades of light green. Refer to my reel if you'd like a visual how to for creating miniature broccoli slabs. I cut a rectangle make the stalk, and used a tiny blade to cut the stalk into more branches. I use the tip of the stylus to cut little dark green balls or curls with rough edges that I attach around the light green stalk. Once you get the technique for the florets, it's easy to build a more 3D crown, if that's the crucifer you have in mind. Once they were cooked, I mixed pastels with liquid clay. I made a few shades of brown and black and applied them with a stylus, partially rubbing off some, and making thick, heavily pigmented black to dab on for a 3D blistering effect— or just hold it up to a flame, like I've done before! Don't forget that since the buds are tiny, they need more brown and char. After a quick trip to the oven to set the sear marks, this broccoli is ready for a tiny scene.
